We report the generation of the robust nanosecond Nd:YVO4 solid-state laser and Er³⁺:ZBLAN fiber laser passively Q-switched by the tin selenide (SnSe) nanoflowers saturable absorbers. The SnSe nanoflowers prepared via chemical precipitation method exhibit broadband nonlinear optical absorption performance, and can modulate the separate lasers to deliver stable nanosecond pulse ∼1 µm and ∼2.8 µm successfully. Metal nanomaterials have attracted increasing attention due to their outstanding nonlinear optical and photonic properties, making them as potential saturable absorber (SA) candidates for realizing ultrafast photonic devices. In this paper, we demonstrate the generation of mode-locked dual-wavelength pulse trains in an Ag nanoplates (AgNPTs)-based Yb-doped all-fiber laser for the first time to the best of our knowledge. The AgNPTs are synthesized by seed-mediated growth and then integrated into a fiber ferrule by optical deposition, which serve as SA in the ring laser cavity. The plasmonic properties of such nanoplates are measured by absorption spectrophotometry and their nonlinear optical properties are characterized by Z-scan. The measured nonlinear saturable absorption of the AgNPTs-based SA is 6.4%. In our laser, the dual-wavelength synchronous mode-locking is achieved at the center wavelengths of 1031.92 and 1033.24 nm with 3-dB spectral bandwidth of 0.52 and 0.46 nm, respectively, where 293-ps pulse trains with a repetition rate of 11.43 MHz are obtained at the pump power of 350 mW. The results demonstrate that the solution-processed AgNPTs are promising SA candidates for achieving stable and low-cost pulsed laser sources which could be used for spectroscopy and ultrafast photonics.

Vanadium diselenide (VSe2), a typical metallic behaviour material among transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs) family, exhibits excellent photoelectric characteristics with a zero band gap, missing applicaiotn in pulse generation. In this work, a high-quality VSe2 saturable absorber (SA) was synthesized through a liquid-phase exfoliation method. The saturable absorption of obtained VSe2-SA was characterized systematically. The measured modulation depth was 9.9%, and the saturated intensity was 533.8 µJ/cm2. By incorporating this optical modulator into a ytterbium-doped fiber laser cavity, a stable passively Q-switched laser could be achieved. The pulse had the central wavelength of 1064.03 nm. As the pump power was increased, the repetition rate increased from 24.3 kHz to 35.6 kHz, and the pulse duration decreased from 7.21 µs to 5.27 µs. The output power had the maximum value of 28.55 mW. These results indicated that VSe2 is an effective candidate to generate pulse laser due to its excellent nonlinear optical properties and universal photoelectric response, which may advance the applications of VSe2-based nonlinear optics and photoelectric devices.

CuCrO2 (CCO) Nanoparticles (NPs)-Polyimide (PI) films are successfully used to achieve passively Q-switched pulse output in ytterbium-doped fiber lasers (YDFL). The laser output characteristics can be regulated by using our as-fabricated CCO NPs-PI films at 1.03 μm. The pulse duration and repetition rate are simultaneously compressed by tens of times, at the same time single pulse energy and peak power are increased by one and three orders of magnitude, respectively. In particular, this is the first time that pulse duration and repetition rate are compressing simultaneously in YDFL. In addition, CCO NPs is integrated into YDFL for the first time. The reason for these phenomenons is that reverse saturable absorption reasonably increases the cavity loss, which effectively improves the modulation depth, over threshold degree and the accumulation of inversion particles. All these can prove that CCO NPs can be used as an important SA to construct high-performance Q-switched fiber laser.

Layered 2D graphene oxide (GO) films are integrated with silicon nitride (SiN) waveguides to experimentally demonstrate an enhanced Kerr nonlinearity via four‐wave mixing (FWM). SiN waveguides with both uniformly coated and patterned GO films are fabricated based on a transfer‐free, layer‐by‐layer GO coating method along with standard photolithography and lift‐off processes, yielding precise control of the film thickness, placement, and coating length. Detailed FWM measurements are carried out for the fabricated devices with different numbers of GO layers and at different pump powers, achieving up to ≈7.3 dB improvement in the FWM conversion efficiency for an uniformly coated device with one layer of GO and ≈9.1 dB for a patterned device with five layers of GO. A detailed analysis of the influence of pattern length and position on the FWM performance is performed. The dependence of GO's third‐order nonlinearity on layer number and pump power is also extracted, revealing interesting physical insights about the layered 2D GO films. Finally, an enhancement is obtained in the effective nonlinear parameter of the hybrid waveguides by over a factor of 100 relative to bare SiN waveguide. These results demonstrate the high nonlinear optical performance of SiN waveguides integrated with layered 2D GO films.
