Arthropod repellent research in Northwest Florida has been performed over 20 years under the auspices of Florida A&M University, Florida State University, and Public Health Entomology Services, LLC. This chapter discusses regulations, testing methodologies, and the components of topical and spatial arthropod repellents that have attracted the most attention. It provides an overview of arthropod repellent research in Northwest Florida, United States, where testing commercial and experimental plant-based mosquito repellents has been the priority. The impact of regulatory requirements on 25(b) products and changes to testing protocols for topical arthropod repellents are discussed. An efficacy protocol used for evaluating spatial arthropod repellents is presented. In addition, some of the better performing and more promising botanical arthropod repellents are discussed.
