(Fig. 1) O estudo complementar excluiu envolvimento de órgão.

Atypical thymic carcinoid is an extremely rare tumor with a poor prognosis. In addition to its known association with multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1, its hallmark characteristics include local invasion and early distant metastasis. In this report, we share our experience treating atypical thymic carcinoid in a patient with Zollinger-Ellison sy...

Cutaneous angiosarcoma is a rare soft tissue sarcoma with a poor prognosis and an incidence of approximately 2.0%. This entity manifests as bruises, violaceous nodules and plaques, and diffuse hemorrhagic lesions with infiltrative growth. Here we report a case of an 80-year-old Caucasian man who presented with a nodular, hard, and dark lesion present in the upper third of the right ear for more than 1 year. The treatment of cutaneous angiosarcoma is multidisciplinary, including surgery alone or combined with radiotherapy for early lesions and chemotherapy for disseminated lesions. Cutaneous sarcomas are rare, and their appropriate treatment and follow-up are critical. Keywords: Hemangiosarcoma; Sarcoma; Skin neoplasms; Skin; Prognosis

Kaposi sarcoma is a low-grade vascular tumor, associated with human herpesvirus-8 infection. Solid organ transplant recipients have a much higher risk of this malignancy, with estimated incidence rates increased 84 to 500 times. The risk is even higher in some ethnic groups, already with a higher incidence of this disease. We report a case of a 37-year-old African male, a kidney transplant recipient, with a Kaposi sarcoma refractory to different treatment options. The present case puts in evidence the challenges associated with the management of this disease in this high-risk population and highlights the role of a multidisciplinary approach to achieve effective treatment, particularly in advanced and refractory forms.

Acute gastroenteritis caused by rotavirus represents a clinical episode of high relevance to brazilian public health due to its significant mortality rate in children under five years old, even with the existence of vaccination program. In Brazil, Rotarix® from GlaxoSmithKline, a live attenuated vaccine has been used in children since 2006. The present study evaluated the effectiveness of vaccination in the semiarid region of the Brazilian State of Paraiba by reporting cases of diarrhea, clinical data from the disease in 2005 to 2013 and the detection of viral antigens in the stools of hospitalized children in the years 2012 and 2013. The data showed that, as of 2006, the year of vaccine implantation in the brazilian immunization calendar, there was no significant reduction in the number of cases of diarrhea, with an increase in cases of diarrhea approximately four times in the year 2013, compared to previous years. The RIDA®QUICK Rotavirus/Adenovirus rapid test detected the presence of viral antigens in the stools of hospitalized children, indicating the circulation of viral particles in the environment. One should also consider the impact of other causes associated with these unexpected outbreaks of diarrhea in the region.
