Background The use of social media became a daily activity for many individuals, with recreational, informational, and social purposes, to name a few. However, for some subjects, the use of these platforms may become problematic and generate functioning impairments in many life areas. Given this, the present research aimed at investigating the factor that may contribute to Social Media Addiction, by focusing on Fear of Missing Out and Family Functioning Patterns. Methods A sample of 303 social media users (Mage = 35.29; SD = 14.87; 65% females, 35% males) completed a survey including the Bergen Social Media Addiction Scale, Family Adaptability and Cohesion Evaluation Scales-IV, and Fear of Missing Out Scale. Data were analysed by implementing Pearson correlation and testing a mediation with the Structural Equation Model approach. Results Cohesion, flexibility, and disengagement family functioning patterns were significantly associated with the levels of social media addiction. These dimensions were inserted in the structural equation model, where the full mediation of fear of missing out in their relationship with social media addiction was shown. Conclusions The data showed the protective effect of flexible and cohesive family functioning patterns, as well as the role of disengagement and, sequentially, fear of missing out as risk factors. These findings may provide useful indications to elaborate tailored and effective therapeutic and preventive activity.

The present research investigated the relationships between two self-concept variables (i.e., discrepant self-esteem and low self-concept clarity) and problematic use of social networking sites (SNs). Based on earlier evidence, we expected that these relationships would be mediated by one’s preference for online interactions. A sample of 176 Italian teenagers (71% female, Mage = 16.81 years) completed self-reported questionnaires that assessed their implicit and explicit self-esteem, self-concept clarity, problematic SNs use, and loneliness (to statistically control for its influence). Our hypotheses were supported only in the case of low self-concept clarity, not in the case of discrepant self-esteem. We found problematic SNs use in the case of teens with low self-concept clarity and convergent high self-esteem (i.e., high implicit and high explicit self-esteem), and these relationships were mediated by the preference for online interactions. These results suggest that the preference for online interactions is an important mediator variable that should be considered as a change mechanism in the relationships between self-concept variables and problematic SNs usage.

This study aims to investigate the intricate relationship between social media motivations and subjective happiness, utilizing a novel framework based on the uses and gratifications theory and cultural restraint. Through a quantitative analysis using structural equation modeling (SEM) of a sample of 391 young Jordanian adults, the findings reveal a surprising positive correlation between social media motivations and subjective happiness, with cultural restraint emerging as a critical moderator in this dynamic. Cultural restraint negatively moderates the relationship between social media motivations and subjective happiness. By shedding light on the powerful role of cultural factors in shaping our relationship with social media, this study offers essential insights for practitioners seeking to enhance user experiences and maximize well-being. This research expands upon existing knowledge, providing a fresh perspective on the interplay between motivation and happiness, and highlighting the potential for understanding cultural restraint to unlock greater happiness and fulfillment in the digital age. The findings indicate that the positive impact of social media motivations on subjective happiness may be influenced by the level of cultural restraint within a society.

Research indicates that social media platform (SMP) use may adversely influence university students' academic performance (AP)—a phenomenon broadly known as the dark side of social media (DoSM). Our study applies the Situation-Organism-Behaviour-Consequence (S-O-B-C) framework to explicate pathways through which situational triggers (loneliness and self-presentation) lead to students' experience of cognitive (information and communication) overload, addiction (SMA), and consequentially, reduced academic performance (RAP). Methodologically, we deploy a mixed-methods approach comprising three studies—a qualitative study (Study A, n = 48) and two quantitative, cross-sectional studies in India (Study B: n = 479, Study C: n = 618)—through convenience sampling to develop and test a conceptual model through PLS-SEM. Our results provide evidence that loneliness and students' self-presentation significantly influence overload and SMA, which strongly influence RAP. Additionally, a partial moderating effect of demotivation due to social comparison was found in Study C, lending nuanced insight into the effects of personal tendencies on students' SMP use. Our study is limited to an emerging country context, but the results raise practical implications for students across the globe. In addition, our study suggests that future scholars should further investigate the personal and situational factors that can affect students' DoSM experiences like cognitive overload.

Against the background of the contention that social media use could have negative effect and impact on the mental health of users, arising from addictive and prolonged usage, this paper focuses on the reported heightened negative impact experienced by teenage girls as compared to teenage boys. It explores the possible contribution of the patriarchal socialisation of girls into acceptance of objectification and self objectification, making them more susceptible to interest in body presentation and beauty, and this likely opening them up to more engagement than boys on such issues on social media. The implication, as the paper argues, is the need to factor in the continuing importance of patriarchy and its manifestation of objectification and self objectification in the lives of women and girls as critical to understanding, explaining and addressing the heightened negative impact of social media use on the mental health of girls vis-a-vis boys.

The research aims are to establish its social exchange theory and social cognitive theory and to learn more about the connections between organizational learning, privacy worries, innovation capacity, and the mediating role of social networking sites used by Grab and Careem in Pakistan. Three hundred people were used to analyze the results of a physical questionnaire. Personality traits positively affect the innovative performance of Grab and Careem employees, as shown by structural equation modeling (SEM) results. The results also showed that social media sites acted as a positive mediator between organizational learning, privacy worries, innovation skills, and creative output. Important data for administration, travel planners, and politicians can be gleaned from this study's novel findings, which are supported by established theories like social exchange and cognition theories. In the future, researchers may devote more time to examining how people's ability to think creatively is affected by their surroundings. The most recent findings helped to establish clear standards by which future builders and designers of such sites can guide their work. There are numerous suggested theoretical and practical implications, demands for additional research, and policy recommendations.

ÖZET Amaç: Sema; bünyesinde hem meditasyonu hem de egzersiz eylemlerini barındıran dini bir ibadettir. Çeşitli ibadet türlerinin stres ve anksiyete üzerinde olumlu etkilerinin bulunması sema ibadetini gerçekleştiren semazenlerin de; stres düzeylerinin düşük, uyku kalitelerinin yüksek ve nörotrofik faktörlerinin optimal düzeyde olacağı yönünde bir hipotezi düşündürmektedir. Gereç ve Yöntem: İlgili çalışmada semanın strese karşı koruyucu etkisi araştırıldı. Çalışmaya 17 semazen ve 16 gönüllü olmak üzere toplamda 33 yetişkin erkek dahil edildi. Çalışmaya dahil edilen tüm bireylerin; nörotropik faktörleri (VEGF, BDNF, GDNF), PNX-20 verileri, anksiyete düzeyleri (BECK Anksiyete Ölçeği) ve uyku kaliteleri (Richard- Campbel Uyku Ölçeği) incelendi. Bulgular: Semanın; VEGF, BDNF, GDNF ve Phoenixin-20 ve anksiyete değerlerini düşürdüğü, uyku kalitesini ise arttırdığı tespit edildi. Despite the soaring popularity of short video applications (SVA) among adolescents worldwide, little is known about its potential impact on adolescent users. This study aimed to examine whether and how adolescents' user behaviors regarding SVA, including daily usage and reliance on algorithmic recommendations, predict their cognitive functioning and academic performance. A sample of Chinese adolescents from two age cohorts (Mage=12.25, SD=0.02, N=454; Mage=15.21, SD=0.02, N= 368) completed the survey on SVA user behavior and cognitive ability test regarding academic delay of gratification (ADOG), working memory and verbal ability. The findings reveal that daily usage of SVA is negatively correlated with users' ADOG and academic performance for both age cohorts. And the dependency on algorithmic personalization negatively predicts the working memory, verbal ability and academic performance of the younger cohort only. Also, their SVA daily usage negatively correlates with working memory and verbal ability, which both simultaneously mediate between their user behavior and poorer academic performance. Considering the age differences in SVA-related effects, the study further points out the higher susceptibility of younger adolescents to SVA use compared to their older counterparts, which should be noted by students, parents, educators and researchers to prevent the potentially negative impact. 2

The COVID-19 pandemic substantially increased the intensity of internet use in humans, which has made public opinion around health and public perceptions of it more vital, and this phenomenon has had a significant impact on human lifestyle behavior. This study used cross-sectional data during the COVID-19 pandemic to explore how internet use intensity influenced lifestyle behaviors among adults, and compared the differences between samples of different ages. The findings showed that the internet use intensity among adults increased the probability of physical activity, staying up late, and high-quality eating behaviors, and that they had a statistically significant positive association. Such associations were also found in independent younger, middle-aged, and older samples. However, the internet use intensity elevated the probability of body weight gain only in the independent samples of younger, middle-aged, and older adults. Besides, internet use intensity was able to increase the probability of smoking & drinking only among the younger sample. Notably, the effect of internet use intensity on lifestyle behaviors, including body weight gain, physical activity, staying up late, and a high-quality diet, was strongest among the elderly, followed by the middle-aged, and weakest among the younger. In the process of rural and urban governance regarding citizens' health, public health agencies should remind citizens to spend a reasonable amount of time on internet use to reduce the probability of unhealthy lifestyle behaviors and improve their physical health.
