The present paper gives an account of six species of the genus Aphanomyces recorded in Lithuania. All species are briefly described and illustrated; taxonomical position and ecology of some of them are discussed. Four species of the genus, A. euteiches, A. helicoides, A. parasiticus and A. stellatus, are reported for the first time in Lithuania.

Six taxa of Elettariopsis Baker (Zingiberaceae) were previously accounted for Thailand. In this paper, E. wandokthong, a new species from Thailand, is described and illustrated. Also, the distribution of E. monophylla (Gagnep.) Loes. in Thailand is reported here for the first time with full description and illustration. Key to species currently enu...

Two new species of Paspalum from Mexico are described and illustrated and the identity of P. crinitum of the group Livida is discussed. The new species, Paspalum chiapense from Chiapas and P. yecorae from Sonora, belong to subgenera Harpostachys and Paspalum group Paniculata, respectively. A preliminary account of the 88 species (including the new...

... A 96 % match to Aphanomyces stellatus was detected in another sample, meaning that either Aphanomyces stellatus, or a closely related species, was identified. P. monospermum is primarily known as a plant pathogen, also found in river water (Matsiakh et al. 2016), while Aphanomyces sp. are found in soil or water as saprotrophs or parasites of roots, algae, aquatic fungi, insects, crayfish or fish (Markovskaja 2007). Species of both genera were previously found on FAGFELLEVURDERTE ARTIKLER fish eggs in Polish hatcheries (Czeczuga & Woronowicz 1993). ...

Arctic charr (Salvelinus alpinus) eggs in hatcheries are treated for fungal infections using formalin before, and hand-picking during the eyed stage. The relative effectiveness of these two treatments was evaluated using a factorial design with the application of weekly hand-picking, and formalin treatments at 380 ppm for 13 minutes three times weekly as factors. The effects of the treatments on total mortality and hatching success were compared using a twoway ANOVA. Both treatments exhibited significant, positive effects on egg survival. Handpicking during the eyed stage (+ 0.5 to 2.5 % survival to hatch) was found to be more effective than formalin treatments before (+ 0.0004 to 0.8 % survival to hatch). This is likely due to differences in the timing of administration of the treatments. The probability of fungal infections varied with time, and a peak seemed to occur during hatching.

This work is part of a biodiversity and biosystematic study of zoosporic fungi of Bajaur, the newly merged district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province. A total of 19 isolates were characterized morphologically and except one all were identified up to species level. Ten species belonged to Saprolegniaceae and one species to each of the Olpidiopsidaceae and Blastocladiaceae. Of these, nine taxa, viz. Brevilegnia minutandra, Leptolegnia caudata, Aphanomyces scaber, Saprolegnia australis, Saprolegnia sp., Achlya orion, Calyptralegnia ripariensis Olpidiopsis saprolegniae var. levis and Allomyces arbusculus, appeared to be new records for Pakistan, Dictyuchus monosporus, Saprolegnia ferax and Achlya bisexualis are reported for the first time for this district. Saprolegnia australis is reported for the first time from a wild freshwater fish, namely Paraschistura alepidota. The fungi are described in detail and illustrated. The rDNA ITS region of 15 isolates was amplified and sequenced. The phylogenetic relationship among the genera of the family Saprolegniaceae is discussed.
