... example forms part of the 'Corbridge hoard' excavated in 1964 from an early 2 nd century fort underlying the central administrative buildings of the Roman town. The 'hoard' consists of a leather-covered wood chest containing a variety of armour, tools and other everyday objects including a 'cruise lamp' (Figure 3).
