... In addition, Kuwait's natural habitats and ultimately their biodiversity are under anthropogenic stresses which include desert camping, the encroachment of new conurbations, and overgrazing by livestock (Asem & Roy 2010) (Fig. 2). Off-road driving can also have a detrimental effect on habitats, randomly killing different species of fauna, including desert dwelling insects (Mahgoub 2007). ...

For the first time, two species of the Hesperiidae family are recorded from the State of Kuwait. The observations of Gegenes nostrodamus (Fabricius, 1793) and Pelopidas mathias (Fabricius, 1798) started in 2021. The habitats are discussed, dorsal and ventral pictures of both genders of G. nostrodamus and P. mathias are included. For identification the genitalia of both genders were examined, and the photographs of their preparations are presented. While the male and female genitalia of G. nostrodamus were described in detail, this was not the case for P. mathias. Images of the male and female genitalia of collected specimens of P. mathias are compared with detailed drawings of Pelopidas thrax (Hübner, [1821]). The discovery of two new species for the State of Kuwait increases the total number of butterfly species to 25.
... They found that tourist insights were specifically related to the geographic location of the site and surrounding urban facilities. In Kuwait, the informal desert tourist activities negatively influence the sustainable development of ecotourism, which requires intervention to protect the fragile desert ecosystems from deterioration and eventual extinction (Mahgoub, 2007). In Saudi Arabia, during the last 20 years, the number of protected areas have been increased by isolating the wildlife from the surrounding local communities. ...

Oman is characterized by potential diverse landscapes that attract tourists from various countries and regions. In addition, several spatial environments such as plains, mountains, deserts, oases, safaris, islands, and attractive coasts are found across the country, providing prosperous tourism industry features. This research aims to spatially assess land suitability for ecotourism activities in Masirah Island, utilizing the Analytic Hierarchical Process (AHP) method. Thirteen criteria were identified to evaluate suitability of sites for ecotourism activities based on literature review, local knowledge, and field work. The findings revealed 37.39 km² (5.96%) as highly suitable, 288.84 km² (46%) as moderately suitable, and 294.46 km² (47%) as minimally suitable for sustainable ecotourism development across the island. Governmental policymakers and planners can use the outputs of this study as a basis for evaluating the suitability of natural resources for ecotourism development.

The eco-protection policy of Kuwait, located in the northeastern part of the Arabian Peninsula on the northwestern shore of the Persian Gulf, has greatly influenced the desertification and marine environment conservation. The aims of this study are to evaluate the eco-policy structure of Kuwait and characterize the policy changes from sustaining economic growth to sustainable development. The data envelope analysis method is used to evaluate the effects of this eco-policy. The results reveal that the eco-efficiency is relatively poor, but the eco-policy induced positive effects. Economic development is not the only factor that has a considerable influence on the effectiveness of the eco-policy. This study represents the first quantitative analysis of the effects of eco-policy on Kuwait. At this time of economic instability in Kuwait, the study is a reminder to eco-policy makers to ensure balanced social, ecological, and economic benefits. This study is a reference for future policy researchers and policymakers for formulating the next phase of eco-environmental policies in Kuwait and other Gulf states, and for international cooperation in eco-environmental policies.

Recent volatility in oil markets and the economic constraints of a budget deficit are compelling “rentier” states like Kuwait to seek various avenues for economic diversification. This article suggests that promoting heritage tourism could potentially transform the economy and propel tourism growth overall. It seeks to identify the prospects for heritage tourism development through an exploration of the tangible and intangible heritage of Kuwait. The paper provides an insight into challenges and constraints facing heritage tourism development in Kuwait including the need for training, education, image branding and marketing. Finally it suggests a framework for sustainable heritage tourism. Primary data was collected through field work in heritage institutions and museums and informal interviews with staff and visitors, and complemented by institutional brochures, official websites, newspaper reports, tourist information and government databases.
