Introduction: Taking medication without a doctor’s prescription is not always harmful and may reduce the cost and save the time. In Pakistan, homemade remedies and spiritual faith are the first line of treatment of minor illnesses. This study was carried on undergraduate Physical Therapy students of Karachi, Pakistan. Materials and Methods: Was a cross-sectional study, conducted on 250 undergraduate Physical Therapy students from major private and semiprivate colleges of Karachi, Pakistan. The participants were chosen by simple random sampling method. The research was done using 95% confidence interval. Results: Our result shows that medication use without doctor’s advice is a frequent practice among the undergraduate Physical Therapy students of major private and semi-private institutes of Karachi, Pakistan. It was observed that 5%, 21%, 18%, 4%, 27%, 25% of the students were taking self-medication on daily, weekly, fortnight, monthly, yearly and occasional basis, respectively. Conclusion: Headache is the main ailment for which students are practicing self-medication.

Background: Non communicable diseases like obesity and diabetes are increasing worldwide, healthcare physicians are also not immune to this morbidity. The objective of this study is to find the prevalence of obesity and diabetes among healthcare physicians.Methods: The study was done at a tertiary care hospital in Pondicherry. All adult health care physicians of both sexes working in the hospital and giving informed consent to participate in the study were included. Pregnant physicians and those who are not willing to give written consent for participation in the study were excluded from the study. The study was done as a cross sectional study using a pretested standardized questionnaire. Age, sex, demographic data, height, weight, diet habits, family history of diabetes, exercise, medication in all the health care physicians were recorded and studied.Results: Of the total one hundred health care physicians, there were 50 male and 50 female physicians. Among the female physicians, there were 17 of age 41 to 50 years. There were 27 male and 34 female physicians with body mass index of 25 to 29.9. Six males and four females had diabetes mellitus. Six physicians were doing regular exercise. Four physicians were taking both oral anti hyperglycemic drugs and insulin.Conclusions: Doctors are aware and educated part of the society but there is high prevalence of obesity and diabetes mellitus among healthcare physicians. Doctor have to be motivated to take care of their health and to prevent lifestyle disease complication. Further regular screening for diabetes and obesity has to be done for doctors.

Background: Life style is linked with future cardiovascular diseases. The aim of the work was to study the life style characteristics of hospital paramedical healthcare professionals.Methods: Paramedical professionals working in Aaruapadai veedu medical college and hospital were taken up for the study. The study was done as a cross sectional study using a pretested questionnaire method. Age, height, weight, waist circumference, diet pattern, physical activity, sleep and yoga pattern in all the hospital paramedical professionals were collected and studied.Results: Of the total one hundred hospital paramedical professionals, there were 90 female paramedical professionals. Among the female paramedical professionals, there were 69 of age less than 30years. Normal body mass index of less than 25 was seen (56) 62% of female paramedical professionals. Nine paramedical professionals had abdominal obesity. Of the total 10 male paramedical professionals 6 (60%) were taking food at improper time. Seven male and 58 female paramedical professionals did not do any form of exercise. A total of 84 female paramedical professionals were taking carbohydrate rich diet. Nineteen female paramedical professionals were doing regular exercise and three paramedical professionals were doing yoga. Eighty-five female paramedical professionals had refreshing normal sleep.Conclusions: Hospital paramedical healthcare professionals had a poor physical activity and diet pattern. The prevalence of abdominal obesity was less in paramedical professionals.
