The earliest extant depictions of the human face are not simply realistic but represented through specific technologies (means) and techniques (styles). In these representations, the face was probably idealized in order to empower its agency through simulacra. The history of art sees humans become increasingly aware of the impact of technology and...

... In contemporary China, large eyes in females appear in a variety of contexts, from cartoons to makeup recommendations, and are celebrated for expressing a girlish, soft, sweet style, which reflects the worship of youth and the patriarchal standard of cuteness for women. Slanting eyes appear to be slightly smaller due to the gradient of the slant and degree of curvature of eyelids while Chinese young women prefer to enlarge their eyes in photos of themselves using the digital cosmetic application Meitu, whose algorithms demonstrate hegemonies of Western aesthetics (Leone 2020). ...

The representation the model’s face in advertisements is a controversial issue for the Chinese. This article investigates the features and the origin of stereotypical Chinese eyes throughout history, highlighting the naturalization of the slanting eyes in the Western context. Through a short summary of preferable eyes in physiognomy, traditional painting, and modern China, the essay demonstrates the variation in perception of the beauty of eyes that differ from and are influenced by the West in both positive and negative aspects. The essay critiques the Orientalist portrayal of Chinese models by comparing the stereotypical slanting eyes and the admired phoenix eyes and conducting a semiotic analysis of Chen Man’s 2021 Dior photo. Furthermore, by adopting the Chinese concept of “face” ( lian / mianzi ) in the case of the Chinese brand Three Squirrels, the author proposes that the sensibility of the Chinese toward the model’s face is not only a historic problem related to national emotions but also a moral issue linked with collectivism, particularly in self-Orientalist cases. The Communist Party of China plays an active role in the construction of the moral discourse regarding the perception of the beauty of eyes, which may become another response to Orientalism.

The capacity to recognize anomalies in real-world visual data is essential for many computer vision uses. New approaches and ideas in unsupervised defective garments identification require data for training and evaluation. Understanding the constraints of the currently employed approach of human inspection is crucial for improving clothing quality. Uses for digital image processing in the textile sector are suggested. This method proposes a novel quantitative measuring strategy by fusing digital image processing with the Lab view platform. As this study progresses, it becomes clear that the FLDA yields the best results, with 95% accuracy, while the Hoeffiding Tree yields the lowest results, with 60% accuracy. When compared to other models, the FLDA's precision of 0.96 is the best you'll find, while the Hoeffiding Tree's is the lowest at 0.62. The FLDA provides the best result, with a recall value of 0.95, while the Hoeffiding Tree shows the lowest result, with a recall value of 0.60. The FLDA yields the best results (0.90 kappa value), whereas the Hoeffiding Tree yields the worst (0.20 kappa value). The FLDA exhibits the best results, with an F-Measure value of 0.95, while the Hoeffiding Tree displays the lowest results, with an F-Measure value of 0.58. The FLDA provides the best results, with an MCC value of 0.91, while the Hoeffiding Tree displays the worst results, with an MCC value of 0.22. The FLDA yields the best results (0.98 ROC value), whereas the Decision Table produces the worst results (0.69 ROC value). The best prediction accuracy is shown by the FLDA, at 0.98 of the PRC value, while the worst is shown by the Decision Table, at 0.67. The MAE is lowest (0.07) for the FLDA and highest (0.39) for the Hoeffiding Tree. The MAE deviation of the Bayes Net is 0.19. The best result is shown by the FLDA, with an RMSE of 0.22, while the largest RMSE deviation is found in the Hoeffiding Tree, at 0.62. The RMSEdeviation for Bayes Net is 0.41. The finest RAE is shown by the FLDA, at 13.39%, while the largest RAE deviation is 78.28% for the Hoeffiding Tree. The Bayes Net explains 38.74% of the variation in RAE. The best result is shown by the FLDA, with an RRSE of 44.36%; the largest RRSE variation is shown by the Hoeffiding Tree, with 123.99%. When compared to other models, the IBK's preparation time of 0 seconds is by far the shortest. While the Bayes Net completes its task in 0.03 seconds, FLDA can take up to 0.17 seconds. The FLDA model is found to have superior performance in this study.
... According to different requirements and the diversity of noise, there are many filtering methods for us to choose from, and each has its own advantages and disadvantages. erefore, using appropriate filtering methods to denoise noisy images is also an important link that cannot be ignored in this detection system [16]. Firstly, this section introduces two common filtering methods in the spatial domain-mean filtering and median filtering, analyzes their filtering principles and uses two denoising methods to filter the sample image, compare their differences, and choose the best. ...

In order to study the shortcomings of traditional manual inspection of clothing, improve the quality of clothing. A method of applying digital image processing technology in the field of textile and clothing is proposed. This method combines computer digital image technology to propose an image processing and measurement process technology based on the Labview platform. Through the effective combination of neural networks and support vector machines, methods such as deep learning can better realize the recognition and classification of clothing images. According to a random interview survey of 80 people, 78 people think that the quality of clothing is the most important, and 2 people think that beauty is the most important. The experimental results show that the digital book processing technology platform can further improve the accuracy of clothing detection.
... In recent years, the sign-interpretation-object triangle is used to explain social network marketing communication in social network research (Mingers & Willcocks, 2014;Leone M, 2020). Using the sign-interpretation-object triangle, some studies use communication effectiveness to measure social network marketing effectiveness (Dong et al., 2014;Fjrtoft & Lai, 2020). ...

Although social network advertising has become part of the online marketing strategy, there is still a lack of research related to the interaction between brand awareness and advertising contents in social network advertising. Using the semiotic theory to explain the interaction in social network advertising, this study introduced sign-interpretation-object triangle to analyze the interactions of advertising content and brand awareness as signs, users’ experience as interpretation, and social networks advertising effectiveness as object moderated by social facilitation. This study was made in an experiment followed by an online survey, which contains 303 participants in Mainland China. This study shows some major findings. There is an interaction effect on advertising content and low brand awareness in a social network. The moderating role of social facilitation is significant in advertising content with high brand awareness.

(Despite an ENGLISH abstract, the main text is in ITALIAN) Face masks have been a precious ally in preventing the spread of Covid-19. However, notwithstanding their primary function not being social, by covering part of the face, the most salient organ in social exchanges, face masks also inevitably alter our social interactions in relevant respects. In this essay, I first provide a historical-philosophical analysis of face masks qua medical tool. I then review and comment on what psychologists and other social scientists say on what social information the mask subtracts or adds to human face perception. Finally, I conclude by highlighting some implications of masked face perception and by speculating about the future use of face masks.
