In this study, the software Geology and Mining System (GMS) has been developed for the education of geology and mining engineering students in mine valuation courses. The GMS has been applied in education for 2 years and it has been observed that the system serves to cognitive education purposes. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Comput Appl Eng Educ...

In this study, new simulation-based software developed for educational purposes is introduced. The software simulates the processing system of natural stone plants which are very important and have been taught in natural stone production related lectures both at mining engineering departments and vocational high schools. The software was used during these classes and the students' feedbacks were measured by Likert scale surveys. This paper presents the development process of this software and the feedback results of its application in the classes. Positive feedbacks from the students encourage us for the next projects and show that the software achieved its learning objectives.

This paper presents a new simulation-based computer program that provides an interactive and visual environment for teaching and learning of mining engineering related subjects. An actual open pit magnesite mine was selected and whole simulation data were obtained from this mine in order to create a simulation application. The program represents this open pit mine in detail using more than hundred variables, 14 windows, and several modules. It is believed that, with its all components, this educational tool can be used for several mining-related subjects such as drilling and blasting, excavation and haulage, size reduction and magnetic separation at universities to provide fundamental information to the students and anyone dealing with mining engineering related subjects. It may also be used for mining related departments such as geology and geophysics for giving brief information about mining. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this paper, new visual courseware for surface mining education is described. It has been developed to help and support the lecturer when teaching and as a self-study tool for students in learning surface mining methods. The software enables the constructors, students and engineers to analyze whole mining and economical aspects of surface mining methods and is fully implemented using graphical user interface technology.
