Circumcision is arguably one of the most performed procedures in the world and transcends cultures, nationalities, and religions. New insights into the motivations of men seeking circumcision reversal was the incentive to further investigate known reconstructive therapies. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to present an overview of the histor...

... devices offer tapeless restoration, most of which are not provided with official instructions or results (Table 2). One method is the Tapeless Conical (TLC) tugger [34]. It consists of a two cone-shaped component, which entraps the residual prepuce. Traction is achieved through the use of an elastic band, weights or strapping it to the upper leg (Fig. 5). Men are advised to wear it for 8-12 hours a day, with the exception of sleeping, when erect or in case of discomfort. Initial gain is 3 mm a month, with therapy taking 3-4 years to reach its' final results (Fig. 6) [29,34]. The Foreskin Natural Restorer is a stainless-steel bell that fits over the glans, and uses elastic bands for ...

... Dating back approximately 15,000 years, circumcision initially had cultural, ritualistic, and religious motives, with medicalization beginning in the 19th century. The earliest written evidence of circumcision dates back to 2300 B.C. in Ancient Egypt's Ankh-Mahor temple wall reliefs [2]. ...

Purpose Circumcision is the most common surgical procedures performed in males. Medical circumcision is recommended for diseases such as phimosis, paraphimosis, balanoposthitis and common urinary tract infections, although there is no exact indication. Conversely, Jewish and Muslim individuals commonly undergo circumcision regardless of medical necessity. Circumcision devices are designed to shorten surgery time, achieve an aesthetic appearance and ensure safe surgery. The aim of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of the NeoAlis clamp, a disposable circumcision device, by comparing it with the sleeve technique in children. Materials and methods Between 2017 and 2023, retrospective evaluation of 2626 patients who underwent circumcision using either the NeoAlis clamp (group 1) or the sleeve technique (group 2) was conducted. Operation time, results, cost, complications were compared between the two groups. Results The study encompassed 2626 patients who fulfilled the inclusion criteria. Group 1 comprised 2403 patients, whereas Group 2 consisted of 223 patients. The overall complication rate, as denoted by n = 47, was 1.7%. Group 1 operation time was shorter than group 2. Bleeding, the most feared complication in the early period, was higher in the second group. No statistically significant difference was observed between the two groups regarding cost comparison. Conclusion The primary concern during circumcision is to avoid complications related to general anesthesia in newborns and infants. The use of disposable ring devices has been facilitated by the shorter operation time and the absence of the need for sutures when performing circumcision under local anesthesia. However, knowledge of advanced surgical circumcision techniques is necessary in cases of bleeding and inappropriate ring placement.

... Growth hormones, for example, can be said to impact genital development, as would puberty blockers, sometimes used for purposes of gender affirmation, neither of which necessitate surgery. Also relevant are practices such as "foreskin restoration," which involves attaching various devices to the penis in order to stretch the remaining skin over the penile glans in an attempt at "correcting" undesired foreskin removal (i.e., a modification intended to "undo" another modification) [21]. Some individuals currently engaged in said practices are minors, and under a literal (i.e., legal age-based) interpretation of Townsend's position, it might be concluded that those individuals should be prevented, as a matter of principle, from doing so. ...
... The argument from psychological risk. There is evidence that many thousands of neonatally circumcised men in the Englishspeaking world are engaged in an arduous process of so-called 'foreskin restoration' (i.e., the attempt to create a pseudoprepuce by attaching weights, tapes, or other instruments to the remaining shaft skin, if any, so as to slowly stretch it out over the course of many months or, more typically, years, with the goal of achieving at least partial coverage of the penile glans) (Earp, 2016a;Mohl et al., 1981;Özer & Timmermans, 2020;Schultheiss et al., 1998;Timmermans et al., 2021). Many such men report a strong feeling of resentment that their penile foreskin was removed without their consent -often irrespective of medical complications -stating that they place a high value both on the foreskin itself (e.g., for its properties and affordances, such as the ability to have one's glans covered when not in a state of sexual arousal) and on the ability to make one's own choice about such intimate matters. ...

Defenders of male circumcision increasingly argue that female ‘circumcision’ (cutting of the clitoral hood or labia) should be legally allowed in Western liberal democracies even when non-consensual. In his target article, Richard Shweder (2022) gives perhaps the most persuasive articulation of this argument to have so far appeared in the literature. In my own work, I argue that no person should be subjected to medically unnecessary genital cutting of any kind without their own informed consent, regardless of the sex characteristics with which they were born or the religious or cultural background of their parents. Professor Shweder and I agree that Western law and policy on child genital cutting is currently beset with cultural, religious and sex-based double standards. We disagree about what should be done about this. In this commentary, I argue that ‘legalising’ childhood FGC so as to bring it into line with current treatment of childhood MGC is not an acceptable solution to these problems. Instead, all medically unnecessary genital cutting of non-consenting persons should be opposed on moral and legal grounds and discouraged by all appropriate means.
