Mantis lacewings (Neuroptera: Mantispidae) are prominent and charismatic predatory representatives of Insecta. Nevertheless, representatives of the group are surprisingly scarce in Paleogene deposits after a relative abundance of specimens known from Creta-ceous. Here we present Mantispa? damzenogedanica sp. nov., representing the first adult of Mantispidae described from Baltic amber and the only Eocene adult mantispid hitherto preserved in amber. The new fossil species is also among the earliest representatives of Mantispinae, certainly the oldest adult of this group described from amber. Additionally, we discuss the changes through time in the ecological morphospace within Mantispidae based on the morphological diversity (≈disparity) of the raptorial legs. Possible explanations for the post-Cretaceous decline in the morphological diversity of mantis lacewings are posited.

Approximately 340 species of ten families of Neuroptera have been recorded from Mexico. The Tacaná volcano, reaching an elevation of 4092 m a.s.l., is the northernmost representative of the Central American Nucleus volcanic range. Recent survey efforts of the Neuroptera diversity of the Tacaná volcano, Chiapas, along an altitudinal gradient, increased the known fauna of this order in Mexico by 31 species and two genera: Biramus Oswald, 1993 (Hemerobiidae), and Titanochrysa Sosa & Freitas, 2012 (Chrysopidae), with extension of the known distributional range of 25 species of five families. Most of the new country records are from species previously known only from Central and South America. The lacewing fauna of Chiapas is updated from 91 to 147 species. The Neuroptera of the Tacaná volcano is mostly Neotropical with some taxa of Nearctic affinity restricted to medium and high elevations. More than 80% of the Tacaná volcano lacewing species also occur in the Brazilian subregion, especially the Mesoamerican and Pacific domains. Neuropteran species were recorded from 650 to more than 3500 m a.s.l. A higher species richness was present between 600 and 1700 m, with a few species occurring at altitudes above 3000 m. A species checklist and an identification key to the genera of Neuroptera of the Tacaná volcano are provided.

The first comprehensive catalogue of the extant Neuropterida of Pakistan is presented, and the known distributions of all of these species from Pakistan are summarized. The fauna, as presently known, comprises 113 species in 63 genera and 11 families, but this certainly attributes to a significant under-representation of the true fauna. Eighteen species are presently known only from Pakistan and are possibly endemic. The biogeography and several related aspects of the fauna are discussed.

Most works about Climaciella brunnea (Say) deal with predation and parasitoidism on wolf spiders (Lycosidae), or records of populations that mimic vespid wasps (Polistes spp.). Knowledge on immature mantispids is scarce, particularly about pupae. Currently, a key by Hoffman and Brushwein provides information on larvae and pupae of several North American species. Herein, the pupa of C. brunnea is described for the first time, on the basis of a specimen from central Mexico, and its position in the available key is proposed,. The pupa of Plega yucatanae Parker & Stange from southeastern Mexico is also incorporated to the key on the basis of a published description.

The genus Afromantispa Snyman & Ohl, 2012 was recently synonymised with Mantispa Illiger, 1798 by Monserrat (2014). Here morphological evidence is presented in support of restoring the genus Afromantispa stat. rev. to its previous status as a valid and morphologically distinct genus. Twelve new combinations (comb. n.) are proposed as species of Afromantispa including three new synonyms.

Fauna Europaea provides a public web-service with an index of scientific names of all living European land and freshwater animals, their geographical distribution at country level (up to the Urals, excluding the Caucasus region), and some additional information. The Fauna Europaea project covers about 230,000 taxonomic names, including 130,000 accepted species and 14,000 accepted subspecies, which is much more than the originally projected number of 100,000 species. This represents a huge effort by more than 400 contributing specialists throughout Europe and is a unique (standard) reference suitable for many users in science, government, industry, nature conservation and education. For Neuropterida, data from three Insect orders (Raphidioptera, Megaloptera, Neuroptera), comprising 15 families and 397 species, are included.

La faune des Névroptères du Bénin et du Togo n'a jamais fait l'objet d'une synthèse. Ces pays de l'Afrique de l'Ouest sont mentionnés lors de la description d'une espèce nouvelle ou au détour de la répartition géographique d'une espèce, dans des publications éparses dont certaines sont anciennes. L'examen de très nombreux spécimens collectés entre 1970 et 2021 nous permet de présenter ici une étude plus fouillée et de faire un point provisoire sur la richesse faunistique des deux États. Une revue exhaustive de la littérature relève que 56 taxons ont été collectés dans les limites politiques actuelles du Bénin et du Togo : 43 restent valides, 22 présents au Bénin et 28 au Togo (Annexe II). Cette revue a montré que des pans entiers de la faune restaient à inventorier : il n'y a par exemple à ce jour aucune espèce d'Ascalaphidae, de Nemopteridae ni de Mantispidae qui ait été citée du Bénin. Résumé.-Ce travail représente la première synthèse sur la faune des Neuroptera du Bénin et du Togo. L'examen de plusieurs centaines de spécimens, complété par celui de captures plus anciennes et par les citations de la littérature, permet d'identifier un total provisoire de 97 espèces dans ces deux pays, avec 75 espèces présentes au Bénin et 60 au Togo. Dans la famille des Ascalaphidae, une espèce nouvelle, Imparomitus tjederi n. sp. est décrite. La combinaison Imparomitus abdominalis (McLachlan, 1871) est validée. Deux espèces nouvelles proposées par Jones et encore inédites sont introduites : Allocormodes≈micheli, et A. nigristigma. Dans la famille des Myrmeleontidae, la combinaison nouvelle Banyutus harpalyce (Banks, 1911) est proposée et la synonymie nouvelle Nemoleon iolanthe Banks, 1911 = Nelees ducorpsi Navás, 1914 est établie. Six espèces doivent être retirées de la faune du Bénin ou du Togo car elles ont été citées par erreur : margaritina (Palisot de Beauvois, 1807). Des clés de détermination sont proposées pour les Ascalaphidae et les Myrmeleontidae. Abstract.-The authors present the first inventory of Neuroptera in Benin and Togo. The examination of several hundred specimens, supplemented by older catches and a thorough search of the literature, yielded a provisional total of 96 species for the two countries, with 75 species present in Benin and 60 species in Togo. In the family Ascalaphidae, a new species, Imparomitus tjederi n. sp. is described. The combination Imparomitus abdominalis (McLachlan, 1871) is recognized as valid. Two new species proposed by Jones but unpublished yet are recognized: Allocormodes micheli, and A. nigristigma. In the family Myrmeleontidae, the new combination Banyutus harpalyce (Banks, 1911) is proposed. A new synonymy Nemoleon iolanthe Banks, 1911 = Nelees ducorpsi Navás, 1914 is established. The orders Neuroptera and Raphidioptera include the species of insects known as lacewings and snake-flies, respectively. In Portugal, these groups account for over 100 species, some of which are very difficult to identify by morphological analysis. This work is the first to sample and DNA sequence lacewings and snakeflies of Portugal. A reference collection was built with captured specimens that were identified morphologically. DNA barcode sequences of 658 bp were obtained from 243 specimens of 54 species. The results showed that most species can be successfully identified through DNA barcoding, with the exception of seven species of Chrysopidae (Neuroptera). Additionally, the first published distribution data are presented for Portugal for the neuropterans Gymnocnemia variegata (Schneider, 1845) and Myrmecaelurus (Myrmecaelurus) trigrammus (Pallas, 1771).

The Neotropical fauna of Mantispidae is currently composed of 106 species. We provide new distributional records of Mantispidae from Colombia and Panama. Three new species are described, one in Symphrasinae from Colombia, and two in Mantispinae from Colombia and Panama. Haematomantispa nubeculosa (Navás, 1933) and Leptomantispa axillaris (Navás, 1908) are reported from Colombia for the first time, the former being the first record of the genus in the country. New locality records for other species previously known from Colombia are also given. For Panama, we report Anchieta fasciatella (Westwood, 1867) and Trichoscelia iridella (Westwood, 1867) for the first time, the former is herein newly transferred from Plega to Anchieta. Three names Mantispa confluens Navás, 1914, n. syn., Buyda apicata Navás, 1926, n. syn., and Mantispa neotropica Navás, 1933, n. syn., are here synonymized with Buyda phthisica (Gerstaecker, 1885). Updated keys for the genera of Mantispinae, and species of genera Trichoscelia, Buyda, and Climaciella from Colombia are included. With this new information, the known species richness of Mantispidae from Colombia increases from 21 to 26, and from 16 to 19 species in Panama.

Entanoneura batesella (Westwood, 1867) (Insecta: Neuroptera: Mantispidae) is reported for the first time as a predator to the egg sac of the crab spider Epicadus heterogaster (Guérin, 1829) (Arachnida: Araneae: Thomisidae). In Cerro Ñaju, Calzada Larga, Chilibre, Panama. Additionally, relevant ecological aspects of the parasitoid and its interaction with the host are mentioned.
