Noise pollution has become a significant factor, which affects human health living in urban areas. This study aims to explain the relation between noise and different urban land use types such as residential areas, commercial areas, industry areas, green spaces and correlate different samples with the use of urban area and to interpret the results....

In this paper, we explore a statistical relationship between green areas and traffic-related vehicle noise. A medium-sized Brazilian city was selected as the sampling area. This area was divided into 25 subareas and for each subarea a group of descriptors was developed. The parameters considered were the areas occupied by green spaces and the noise...

Executive Summary Context and objectives Today, 52 % of the global population lives in cities, another 33 % in towns and suburbs, a trend that is going to continue (EC and UN-Habitat, 2016). On a European level, around 72 % of the population is already living in cities and towns, also with the expectation to increase (EC and UN-Habitat, 2016). Comp...

... Possible scenarios are, to some extent, guidelines for improving existing conditions (e.g. acoustic) [10,11,12]. Acoustic space shaping consists in forming the right acoustic conditions that the sound stimuli do not exceed permissible values from the point of view of health and a human activity. ...

Sustainable management of the city’s space becomes vital due to the increasing environmental pollution. Organized urban space is treated as all resources that directly benefit local residents. Proper location and shape have an impact on the comfort of people’s rest. Urban noise pollution is gradually increasing, mainly due to rapid industrialization and urbanization. This paper addresses the issue of the interrelationships between the multitude of sounds that occur in selected areas of the greenery and their perception by visitors. The research objects are two parks located in the city centre of Bydgoszcz. The surveys were carried out there to identify the sources and perception of noises. To illustrate the audience's perception, a mental map of the directions of noise inflow was made. A fuzzy cognitive map was also made and exemplary scenarios of actions influencing the formation of the acoustic climate in these areas were presented. The use of various ways of presenting fuzzy information about the prevailing acoustic climate allows us to “shape” properly the space in the noise protection.
... Yerli and Demir, by examining seasonal variation of noise, identified the possibility of noise reduction by greenery up to 20 dB [31]. The researchers showed the dependence of the noise level on the time of year and the time of day (daytime noise for the spring-summer is higher by 4 dB). ...

This paper addresses the problem of noise in spa protection areas. Its aim is to determine the delimitation of the areas that exceed a permissible noise level around the sanatorium on the example of a health resort in Inowrocław. The determination of the exceedance of permissible noise levels allows us to develop directly effective local policy tools to be included in planning documents. In order to reduce noise infiltration, it is important to define environmental priorities. Taking into account their impact on the health of users in the protection area, environmental priorities enable us to introduce additional elements to street architecture. In order to properly manage space, in accordance with the idea of sustainable development, zones of environmental sensitivity—and their socio-environmental vulnerability—have been designated for assessing damage (exceeding permissible noise in health facilities) and defining methods of building resilience (proper management). This has provided the basis for a natural balance optimized for the people living in these areas. To achieve the goal above, non-linear support vector machine (SVM) networks were used. This technique allows us to classify the linearly inseparable data and to determine the optimal separation margin. The boundaries of the areas which exceeded permissible noise levels (separation margin) were estimated on the basis of noise pollution maps, created by means of the SVM technique. Thus, the study results in establishing buffer zones where it is possible to use varied land utilization in terms of form and function, as described in the planning documents. Such an activity would limit the spread of noise.
... When the green corridor potential is assessed in terms of recreational demands of Duzce local community and public benefits, it is seen that the local community strongly demands that Asar stream and its surroundings be pedestrianised and transformed into a green strip on the both sides and that walking and cycling paths and suitable places for horse riding, picnic and passive recreation activities be built [26][27][28][29] . ...

Asar stream, which is located in the city of Duzce, Turkey, constitutes an important part of the physical aspects of urban identity. It can not provide the expected aesthetic and functional contributions from Duzce city. Asar stream is expected to fulfil the needs of irrigation agriculture of Duzce city, as well as to fulfil the recreational needs of the people, to be the urban living space and to provide the connectedness of the city-nature integrity. Asar stream has the characteristics of a green corridor quality between Lake Efteni and Duzce city centre. Also it contains high potential for recreational uses. In this study, a questionnaire was administered to urban users to measure their perceptions on the recreational use of Asar stream, also to evaluate the current use and to ensure the development and finally to determine the needs of the urban users, depending on the socio-demographic characteristics. Thus, it is intended to be converted to an important environmental factor that contributes to the identity of the city with Asar stream.
